Being Resilient: Fighting Hatred with Love

Resilience draws from the strength of character, from a core set of values that motivate efforts to overcome the setback and resume walking the path to success. It involves self-control and a willingness to acknowledge one’s role in defeat. Resilience also thrives on a sense of community — the desire to pick oneself up because of an obligation to others and because of support from others who want the same thing. Resilience manifests in actions — a new contribution, a small win, a goal that takes attention off of the past and creates excitement about the future.”

I copied this definition of resilience several years ago. Unfortunately, I cannot quote the source because I don’t recall where I found it. I only know it reminds me to be more resilient. To not let setbacks and defeat define me. To continue on the right path and not let those that seek to change me win.

The following blog post by John Pavlovitz reminded me of this definition of resilience. Standing up for others. Not giving in and not giving up. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.
